Every FLUX model in October 2026: open, API-only, and which one to use
FLUX 3 Image, Image Klein, Video and the FLUX.2 family including [flex]: what each model is for, which are open weights, the licences, prices, and a quick pick table.

Black Forest Labs now sells and releases more than a dozen FLUX models, across two generations, open and closed, image and video. The names do not make it easy: [flex], [klein], Klein Base, Image Klein. This is the map as of October 18, 2026, built from their own release notes, with what each model is actually for.
If you only want the answer: running ComfyUI on your own GPU, use FLUX 3 Image Klein (I compared it with FLUX.2 Klein in a separate test).
Open weights: what you can run yourself
| Model | Released | Size | Licence | Use it for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FLUX 3 Image Klein | Oct 15, 2026 | 5.6B | FLUX Kommunity License | the current best open FLUX: generation and editing, 16 steps |
| FLUX 3 Image Klein Base | Oct 15, 2026 | 5.6B | FLUX Kommunity License | training LoRAs (50 steps, CFG 3.5) |
| FLUX.2 [klein] 4B | Jan 15, 2026 | 4B | Apache 2.0 | the simplest licence for commercial use |
| FLUX.2 [klein] 9B | Jan 15, 2026 | 9B | FLUX Non-Commercial License | superseded by FLUX 3 Image Klein |
| FLUX.2 [dev] | with the FLUX.2 launch | not stated by BFL | see its licence on Hugging Face | the large open FLUX.2 |
The licences differ more than the names suggest. Only FLUX.2 [klein] 4B is Apache 2.0. The FLUX Kommunity License for FLUX 3 Image Klein is new: read it on Hugging Face before using the model for paid work.
API only: what you pay per image
| Model | Released | What it is | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| FLUX 3 Image | Oct 1, 2026 | the flagship: generation and editing in one endpoint, up to 10 references, up to 4K, layout boxes | $0.041 (768 square) to $0.607 (4K) per image |
| FLUX 3 Image Klein | Oct 15, 2026 | the open model above, served by BFL with prompt upsampling | $0.008 to $0.036 per image |
| FLUX.2 [max] | Dec 16, 2025 | highest-quality FLUX.2, can ground the image in live web results, up to 10 input images | see BFL pricing |
| FLUX.2 [pro] | Nov 25, 2025 | the production workhorse; about 2x faster since March 3, 2026; up to 8 input images | from $0.03 per megapixel |
| FLUX.2 [flex] | Nov 25, 2025 | the precision model for typography and fine detail; you control steps (up to 50) and guidance (1.5 to 10); up to 3x faster since January 29, 2026 | see BFL pricing |
Where [flex] fits
[flex] is the only FLUX model where you choose the step count and guidance strength over the API. That is useful when the picture is mostly text: posters, infographics, packaging, interface mockups. Raise the steps and guidance for tighter lettering, lower them for speed. For general images, FLUX 3 Image now does more for a similar budget, and FLUX 3 Image Klein got every word right in my lettering test for a fraction of the price.
Video
| Model | Released | What it does | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| FLUX 3 Video | preview Aug 4, 2026 | up to 20 seconds at Full HD, 24 fps, with synchronized audio; text, image and video-continuation modes (continuation capped at 15 s since Aug 17) | per second |
| FLUX 3 Video 2K / 4K | Sep 10, 2026 | 2560 x 1440 and 3840 x 2176 output | from $0.40/s (2K) and $0.80/s (4K) |
| FLUX Video Upscale | Aug 20, 2026 | 1.5x to 3x upscale up to 4K, keeps the audio | $0.07 to $0.10 per megapixel-second |
No FLUX video model has open weights. Black Forest Labs says open access to a FLUX 3 multimodal backbone comes "in a later phase", with no date.
Single-job tools (API)
| Tool | Released | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| FLUX Erase | May 21, 2026 | removes an object from a picture and a mask, no prompt |
| FLUX Outpainting | May 14, 2026 | extends a picture in any direction up to 4 MP; a cheaper fast mode since June 9 |
| FLUX Deblur | June 25, 2026 | sharpens one blurry picture, no prompt, up to 4 MP |
| FLUX Virtual Try-On v2 | July 17, 2026 | puts a garment on a person; better faces and fabric than v1, input up to 4 MP |
Retired
Flux Pro 1.0 endpoints and the old Finetuning API stopped on October 31, 2025. The Finetuning API has no replacement; for your own styles, train a LoRA on FLUX 3 Image Klein Base or FLUX.2 [klein] instead (BFL's API also serves your own [klein] LoRAs, in beta since April 23, 2026).
Which one should you use?
| You want to | Use |
|---|---|
| Generate locally in ComfyUI, 8 GB card or more | FLUX 3 Image Klein, int8 file |
| Sell what you make, with the simplest licence | FLUX.2 [klein] 4B (Apache 2.0) |
| Train a style or character LoRA | FLUX 3 Image Klein Base |
| Pay per image for the best result | FLUX 3 Image |
| Lettering-heavy design work over an API | FLUX.2 [flex] |
| Video with sound | FLUX 3 Video |
Prices and features change often. Everything in this article comes from Black Forest Labs' release notes and FLUX.2 page, checked on October 18, 2026. If a number has moved, tell me in the comments and I will update the table.
